From a single-family gut rehab to a ground-up multi-unit development, U.R. Holdings delivers full-scope construction and real estate services with community at the center.
We take on projects other firms walk away from — distressed, vacant, and undervalued properties that become community assets when the right hands get involved.
We take properties down to the studs and rebuild them right — new electrical, plumbing, HVAC, insulation, drywall, flooring, fixtures, and finishes. Nothing halfway.
Targeted renovations that maximize value and livability — from a single bathroom remodel to a complete interior update with curb appeal improvements.
We work with investors and community organizations to rehabilitate duplexes, triplexes, and small multi-family properties into income-producing community assets.
Strategic ground-up development of vacant lots and underutilized parcels in Detroit's emerging and underserved neighborhoods — including our EcoNest container home communities.
Simple, transparent, and results-driven. Here's how we take a property from assessment to completion.
We walk the property with you, assess the scope, and develop an honest project plan with a clear timeline and budget.
We produce a detailed scope of work, select materials, pull required permits, and schedule our workforce.
Our experienced crew — including workforce trainees supervised by senior staff — executes the work to code and on schedule.
Final walkthrough, punch list completion, city inspection, and property handoff. We don't close until you're satisfied.
Have a property in mind? Tell us about your project and we'll follow up to schedule a walk-through and assessment — no commitment required.
U.R. Holdings bridges the gap between real estate rehabilitation and real career opportunity — providing paid on-the-job training for veterans, returning citizens, and individuals re-entering the workforce.
At U.R. Holdings, workforce development isn't a side program — it is built into the core of how we operate. Every property we rehabilitate is simultaneously a job site, a classroom, and an opportunity for someone to change their life.
We recruit from reentry organizations, veterans services, and workforce development agencies across Detroit. Participants join active construction projects, work alongside experienced tradespeople, and earn while they learn.
Our goal is simple: when someone leaves our program, they leave with real skills, recognized certifications, and a pathway to a sustainable construction career — not just a line on a resume.
We also work directly with employers, unions, and trade schools to ensure our graduates have somewhere to go when their time with us is done.
Participants are placed directly on U.R. Holdings rehabilitation projects across Detroit — earning wages while developing real construction skills under the supervision of experienced journeymen.
Participants are referred through reentry organizations, veterans services, Michigan Works!, or may apply directly. We conduct an intake interview and assess where each person is starting from.
Trainees are placed on active rehab projects and paid for their work from day one. They rotate through project phases — demo, framing, drywall, flooring, finishing — gaining broad exposure to the trade.
Every trainee is paired with an experienced crew member who serves as a jobsite mentor. Weekly check-ins track progress, address challenges, and identify specific trade interests for deeper development.
U.R. Holdings sponsors participants through OSHA, NCCER, and trade-specific certifications. Testing fees, study materials, and prep time are covered as part of the program.
Upon completion, participants receive employment referrals to union apprenticeships, contractors, and construction employers across Detroit and Southeast Michigan. We stay connected after placement.
All certifications are nationally recognized and portable — they go wherever our graduates go. We sponsor testing fees and provide on-site study time so financial barriers don't stand in the way.
Our program is designed for individuals who are ready to work and deserve a fair chance — including:
U.R. Holdings believes the construction industry is one of the most powerful vehicles for reentry success. The trades offer immediate employment, competitive wages, and lifelong career pathways — and we are committed to opening that door.
Stable employment is the foundation of housing stability. When our graduates land jobs, they gain the income needed to secure and keep safe housing for themselves and their families.
We work with partner organizations to help participants navigate common reentry barriers — background check concerns, licensing issues, transportation, and documentation — so employment is actually accessible.
U.R. Holdings maintains direct relationships with Detroit-area contractors, unions, and construction employers who have committed to giving our graduates a fair interview and opportunity.
We give priority consideration to veterans transitioning to civilian employment. Military discipline and work ethic align perfectly with the demands of construction — and our veterans deserve the opportunity to prove it.
This isn't a dead-end job. Our program is designed as a launching pad — from entry-level trainee to skilled tradesperson to union apprentice to licensed contractor. We show people the whole ladder.
Every graduate who stays in Detroit and works in construction is reinvesting in the community. They build homes, hire locally, and become the next generation of community builders.

Affordable shipping container home communities — built for veterans and low-income families in Detroit. Modern design, minimal footprint, maximum dignity.
EcoNest homes are constructed from repurposed ISO shipping containers — the same industrial-grade steel used to move goods around the world. Repurposed, insulated, and finished to residential standards, they become modern, durable, and affordable homes.
Each unit is built from a 10-foot ISO shipping container — cut, welded, insulated, and finished with full residential amenities. The steel structure is inherently strong, fire-resistant, and weather-tight, making it an ideal foundation for permanent housing.
Inside, residents find a full bedroom area, private bathroom with walk-in shower, kitchenette, and a private outdoor deck accessed through a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass wall. Wood floors, recessed lighting, modern fixtures, and quality finishes make these anything but "cheap" housing.
Units can be stacked and combined to create multi-level residences or clustered into community configurations — maximizing land use while preserving green space and communal outdoor areas.
EcoNest isn't just individual homes — it's a full community model. U.R. Holdings is developing planned tiny home communities built entirely from shipping containers, designed to provide affordable, dignified, and sustainable housing for veterans and low-income Detroit residents.
Each EcoNest community is planned as a 20+ unit cluster development on available Detroit land — bringing together individual container homes around shared green space, community gathering areas, and on-site support services.
The communities are designed to be net-zero energy capable. Every rooftop accommodates solar panel installation, reducing resident energy costs dramatically and supporting long-term housing affordability beyond just the purchase or rental price.
A portion of units in every EcoNest community are reserved at or below 30% Area Median Income, with priority placement for veterans and individuals transitioning out of housing instability. We are actively pursuing HUD, LIHTC, and city of Detroit funding partnerships to make this possible at scale.
The construction of each EcoNest community is executed by U.R. Holdings workforce trainees — meaning these communities don't just house vulnerable populations, they also employ them during development.
Rooftop solar on every unit — dramatically reduced energy costs for residents
Community gardens, walkways, and gathering areas designed into every site
Units designed to ADA standards with accessible paths throughout the community
Connections to case management, employment, and health services built into the model
U.R. Holdings is actively pursuing partnerships and funding through:
Every decision in the EcoNest model — from materials to community layout — is made with long-term resident wellbeing and affordability in mind.
Repurposed ISO containers reduce construction waste and materials cost while creating a structurally superior shell that lasts decades.
Every rooftop is designed for solar panel integration — residents benefit from dramatically reduced utility costs from day one.
Shared green space, communal gathering areas, and walkable paths are built into every EcoNest site design — because community matters.
Dedicated units and priority placement for veterans and their families, with a clear path toward housing stability and homeownership.
Container construction lowers per-unit build costs by 30–40% versus traditional construction — savings passed directly to residents.
Every EcoNest community is built by U.R. Holdings workforce trainees — creating jobs while building the homes the community needs.
